Football was stronger than it had been in the last few years. All-State Mark Mowatt joined with Captain Ronald Davis, All-Catholic Dennis Monahan, Michael Clancy, Richard Stier, Brian McIntee, John Gillis, Garry Melenyk, and Mark O'Laughlin - to mention just some of the Cub huskies - to cary their school's colors to glory by establishing a record of winning and, strangely enough, of losing - only eight points in three surrenderred games.
The Cub swimmers fired by their new coach, Robert Firlik, out-distanced all competitors to repeat their Catholic League Championship. Stephen Waszak, perhaps the most determined swimmer the league has ever seen, was named an All-American for his record in the butterfly.
In Catholic League Championship track meet, Coach John Tenbusch, surprised everyone but himself by bringing the Cubs to a tie with Brother Rice for the city championship.
