BOTHELL -- It wasn't until Roosevelt's Miguel Martinez intercepted an Inglemoor pass with 1:40 left that the celebration could begin.
Roosevelt ended a 23-game losing streak dating back more than two seasons by stunning the Inglemoor Vikings 10-0 last night at Pop Keeney Stadium in a KingCo 4A regular-season finale.
The Seattle team's last football victory was over Franklin 41-30 on Sept. 22, 2000.
Only after the last of Inglemoor eight turnovers -- four interceptions and four fumble recoveries -- could Roosevelt let loose.
And the celebration continued as the rain poured down after the unlikely victory.
Inglemoor of Kenmore, which had a string of three straight playoff appearances snapped this season, finished the season 3-5 in KingCo 4A and 4-5 overall. Roosevelt wound up 1-7, 1-8.
"Just to come out, have fun and hit some people is why we're here," said running running back Tyler Mamiya, who rushed for 86 yards on 26 carries.
Three of Inglemoor's fumbles came inside the 20-yard line, where Inglemoor also threw a pair of interceptions.
"It's just a weird deal, but when the turnover bug gets you it can get tricky," said Inglemoor Coach Frank Naish.
Roosevelt won despite only 108 yards of total offense. Inglemoor finished with 285.
Roosevelt quarterback Danny Hartung took care of all the scoring, kicking a field goal and an extra point and scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run.
His 43-yard field goal at the 4:45 mark of the first quarter set the tone.
"It was our first lead of the season and it gave everyone confidence," Hartung said.
Not that Roosevelt's opportunistic defense needed much of a boost.
"Our defense played so awesome," Hartung said. "Without them we wouldn't have won."
Tristan Eastburn's 37-yard interceptioin return to the Vikings' 8-yard line late in the third quarter -- his second pick of the night -- proved vital in setting up Roosevelt's only touchdown.
Mamiya then ran the ball 7 yards to the 1 on the next play. Hartung capped it with his 1-yard quarterback keeper.
His extra-point kick made it 10-0.
